New Trend in Cultural Exchange for
Global Peace: Conference Merges East/West Dialogue, Cultural Experiences, Art, Ceremonies and Even After-Hours Jazz Balinese Style
Sausalito, California -- A new format for bringing people together from around the world who all share a deep connection to helping create a more collaborative, peaceful and sustainable future for humankind and the planet is being launched in December in Bali. The QUEST FOR GLOBAL HEALING Conference will hold its first of three annual conference/cultural gatherings on December 3-8, 2004 with up to 500 people attending from around the world.
World-renown presenters include Nobel Peace Laureate Desmond Tutu, Astronaut Edgar Mitchell, Environmentalist Terry Tempest Williams, Balinese psychiatrist and master healer Dr. Luh Ketut Suryani, global fundraiser Lynne Twist and several others will provide keynote addresses during this five-day event. Sponsors include the Institute of Noetic Sciences, World Affairs Council of Northern California, New Dimensions World Broadcasting Network, Cross Cultural Journeys Foundation, Center for Attitudinal Healing, Global Citizens Circle, Udayana University in Bali, Ubud Royal Palace, and Wisdom of the World.
This conference is serving as a "call to action" to citizens from around the globe who are deeply concerned about the severe conflict and state of affairs in the world, and what people can do to re-energize themselves towards making a difference.
Bali and the U.S both share recent devastation caused by terrorist attacks, yet their cultural reactions to these atrocities could not have been more different.
This gathering offers a unique opportunity to learn from the Balinese who have an entirely different--and well developed--process for dealing with conflict within their culture. Theirs is a society that consciously seeks balance with the forces of good and evil. Forgiveness, cultural self-reflection, deep prayer and community-based ceremonies throughout their island have all played a part of their answer to the wounds of terror. Participants will be able to witness how the Balinese have shaped an alliance with the "unseen world" as an integral component of maintaining a deep connection with family, community, and spirituality.
This is not a regular conference in just another beautiful setting. The gathering is being designed as a deep experience WITH Bali. Participants will have numerous opportunities to engage in deep dialogue and cultural reflection with local Balinese and others from around the world, including young emerging global leaders, women activists, Balinese royalty, community and government leaders, and more. Emmy award winning composer/producer Gary Malkin, who has much experience with Ethnomusicology studies, will serve as artistic director, ensuring that the performing arts of Bali will be woven into the conference as an integral part of the experience. Highlights about this extraordinary experience are below.
Small group dialogues will be lead by both Balinese and western facilitators. Up to 100 Balinese will receive scholarships to be full participants at the event.
The conference is being convened and produced by Cross Cultural Journeys and Jaffe Enterprises, both based in Sausalito, California. For more information, please visit www.crossculturaljourneys.com/quest.html.
